Studies Show That People Can “Hear” Silent Videos

Studies Show That People Can “Hear” Silent Videos

It Is Called Synesthesia And It Could Be Related To Tinnitus

Synesthesia is a sensory cross-over that allows people to visualize noises or see smells. It was thought to be uncommon. However, an experiment that included soundless moving images showed that it is fairly common. These moving images were able to obtain an auditory response from the brain, thus “hearing” a silent movie. There are animated GIFs that show this effect. Even though it is not clear how this works, it seems to be related to how the brains are wired. The study also asked the volunteers if they had sensory disorders, such as tinnitus, which had a correlation with those who “listened” to the silent videos. More Information click here.

Spinning Is Great For Your Looks, But May Be Bad For Your Hearing

Spinning Is Great For Your Looks, But May Be Bad For Your Hearing

Spinning may help with a great physical condition and a great figure, but the loud music can be damaging to your hearing. One of the factors of hearing loss is the frequency of exposure, so instructors and frequent attendants are at greatest risk, therefore, protect your ears before each class. There are also apps that will inform you if the number of decibels in the class exceeds the safety limits. More info click here.

Never Insert Cotton Swabs In Your Ears – Here’s Why

Never Insert Cotton Swabs In Your Ears – Here’s Why

People use cotton swabs for cleaning their ears, yet are not aware of how dangerous this is. The reason is that small objects like swabs, hairpins, and toothpicks can perforate the eardrums cut the ear canals and even dislocate the hearing bones. This leads to dizziness, tinnitus or another ear injury. More details click here.

Study: Sea Anemone Could Be The Key To Restoring Hearing Loss

Study: Sea Anemone Could Be The Key To Restoring Hearing Loss

At the University of Lafayette, a study is being made with sea anemones, which have hair receptors similar to the one we have in our ears. This could be a breakthrough for patients who have lost hearing due to a sudden explosion or a loud noise. The anemones use the hair receptors to identify prey. Once they capture it, the prey destroys some of these receptors. To restore these receptors, they secrete a protein that repairs their structure. More info click here.

Avoiding Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

Avoiding Noise-Induced Hearing Loss

It Is The Most Common Type Of Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is more common in older adults, but the truth is that it can develop at any age. Causes can be diseases, medication, injuries, or exposure to loud sounds. Noise-induced hearing loss, also called sensorineural hearing loss, is the damage of the hair cells located in the inner ear. This type of hearing loss could be prevented by following certain guidelines, such as avoiding continued exposure to loud noises, such as clubs, music concerts, and headphones. However, there are differences in noise-induced hearing loss. Sometimes it is difficult to avoid hearing them, such as a sudden noise at the workplace, ambulances or sirens, machinery noises, among others. However, if there is ear damage, it can only be assessed after the event, in other words, when it’s too late. There are ways to avoid exposure to loud noises, such as using foam plugs, moving away from the sound source, or even using special earplugs that block the loud noises but allow a conversation. New Hearing Loss Treatments With Gels And Gene Therapy

New Hearing Loss Treatments With Gels And Gene Therapy

Hearing loss and certain types of tinnitus were considered as irreversible. Now pharmaceutical companies are testing treatments to cure it via gels and gene therapy. Hearing loss occurs when the hair cells located in the cochlea or the nerves associated with them are damaged. Gels are injected through the eardrum to reach these cells. More info click here.
